Road safety pilot could be rolled out
5:17pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
A ROAD safety scheme currently being piloted in Hyndburn could be rolled out across the rest of East Lancashire, and beyond, if it is a success.
Child Safe Plus is an initiative being run at borough schools for Year 6 pupils, at the request of Lancashire County Council’s road safety manager, following a rise in incidents in the district.
And it has been supported by Coun Fred Jackson, the fire authority’s road safety champion, who has a £5,000 budget to spend on complementary work across Lancashire. Staff from Hyndburn Fire Station are involved in delivering Child Safe Plus, and the results of their efforts will be reported back to the county fire service’s management in due course.
The programme focuses on three key road safety themes, including car safety, pedestrian safety, and cycle safety.
If the feedback is positive, then it is proposed that similar work would be carried out across schools in Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale and Ribble Valley, in the future.
