Drunk passenger sparks train delays
A DRUNK man caused a train to be cancelled, leading to disruption for morning commuters.
Passengers on the 10am Manchester Victoria to Clitheroe train were delayed by 30 minutes just before 10.50am today when the man attempted to board at Darwen.
British Transport Police were called to arrest the man who had stuck his arm into the closing door to gain entry.
The train only continued onto Blackburn where it then returned to Manchester Victoria, causing passengers waiting at stations from Ramsgreave and Wilpshire to travel to Clitheroe and those on the return leg, to be stranded.
Trains did not start operating from Clitheroe until 12.40pm.
Blackburn worker Phil Booth said: “He forced his arm through the door and started swearing at the train guard.
“The doors were opened to release his arm but he boarded the train and was then pursued by the guard who asked him to leave.
“When he refused to do so, police were called and it took about 30 minutes for them to arrive.
“The train conductor was very apologetic and offered refunds for anyone who wanted them.”
