COMMUNITY gyms in Blackburn have been shortlisted for a National Fitness Award.
The projects, which are based at Bangor Street Community Centre and the Energy Zone in Highercroft, have been named as a finalist in the ‘budget gym’ category, fending off nationwide competition.
A judging team will visit the gyms, which are run by the Healthy Living charity, to chat with members and present a detailed report to an expert panel of judges. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on December 6 at The Palace Hotel, Manchester, hosted by former TV Gladiator ‘Ice’, Caroline Pearce.
The gyms have been running for about five years and offer residents the chance to exercise at a low cost.
Abdul Mulla, of Healthy Living, said “We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for these national awards.
“Being recognised by industry experts is a huge compliment and a real boost knowing that as a small charity we are providing excellent facilities that are affordable. We are looking forward to the award ceremony and the thought of being overall winner would be unbelievable.”
