Darwen firm helps JD Sports cut carbon footprint

A DARWEN firm has helped a national sportswear giant to reduce its carbon footprint.
Bsmart Energy Solutions, owned by Commercial Road form Bglobal, has worked with JD Sports to reduce its energy usage by a quarter during product trials.
The Bsmart team worked with the chain to look at ways it could boost the efficiency of each retail store. Among the factors in need of improvement were building design, control and staff habits, which contributed to large energy bills.
Director Chris Norburn said: “Our review highlighted changes that needed to be made across the board. Each of the trial concept stores were struggling with the amount of gas and electricity being consumed, so we put in place a global system to monitor and control usage.
“Overall, the smart energy projects have saved an average of 24 per cent, with one store seeing a 31 per cent reduction.”
The project included adding features such as alarm handling (temperatures, overrides and consumptions).
