Anti-theft screws on offer to Clitheroe motorists
CLITHEROE shoppers will be offered free number plate screws as part of a drive to keep potential car-related crime in the area down.
They are on offer at an event hosted by police and Ribble Valley Community Safety Partnership on Friday, September 6, at Sainsbury’s in the town.
The screws make it difficult for thieves to steal registration plates, which thieves then use to commit crime such as drive-offs from fuel stations.
The event from 12.30pm to 4.30pm will see the police working with the council who will be fitting the number plate screws.
Insp Hassan Khan from Ribble Valley police said: “We have recently had a rise in number plate thefts so we want to offer residents reassurance we are aware these crimes do happen, and are taking preventative action.
“Tamper proof screws are an extremely useful tool to help deter thieves and I hope this initiative will help us to keep this kind of crime from occurring.
“I would encourage anyone with any concerns about these crimes to come and get their number plate fitted with the screws free of charge.”
