Blackburn community group welcomes police commissioner
5:01pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
A COMMUNITY group providing summer trips and activities in one of Blackburn's most deprived areas welcomed Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner.
Act at the Cheets, in the town's Wensleyfold area, received £2,000 from the Commissioner's Community Action Fund, and Clive Grunshaw visited the project to see first-hand what the money was being used for.
The centre offers youngsters the chance to socialise, access computers and take part in activities, including a day-trip to the seaside.
Mr Grunshaw said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit The Cheets and see first-hand the difference the grant from my Community Action Fund is making.
“The enthusiasm of all the volunteers involved in the project was clear to see, and it was evident the centre plays a positive role in the local community, allowing young people to come together, socialise and take part in activities they would otherwise miss out on.”
Community Action Fund grants of up to £2,500 are available to community groups whose activities help to achieve objectives listed in the Police and Crime Plan.
