Nursery in Accrington rated 'satisfactory' by Ofsted
A NURSERY school has been rated ‘satisfactory’ in a recent Ofsted inspection.
Safehands Green Start Nursery, in Accrington, retained the same rating this month as in a previous inspection in March this year.
In a report, inspectors praised the Haywood Road facility for a strong focus on evaluating the setting of the nursery, and on staff training. The report said: “The capacity for improvement is strong in supporting children to make better progress in their overall learning, and development.
“Children's individual care needs, well-being, and independence are given high priority to ensure they are secure and settled. Consequently, children become competent in managing their personal needs, and make choices in their everyday play.
“Staff are very clear in their role in protecting children.”
Inspectors said the school was not yet ready to receive a ‘good’ classification due to a number of factors. Staff were advised to be more consistent in asking open-ended questions to challenge children’s thinking.
The nursery was also advised to plan for, and track, children's progress.
Inspectors also said the management of young children’s behaviour could also be more effective. However the partnership working with parents and the ‘trusting and respectful relationships’ with children was praised.
