Council staff praised for 'good Samaritan' efforts
1:13pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
SENIOR Blackburn with Darwen councillor Jim Smith has praised two of his environmental teams for their ‘good Samaritan’ efforts Emmanual (Manny) Adeoye, Daniel Frasier and Mark Yates were on their bin collection round earlier this year when an elderly man collapsed on his driveway.
They went to his aid and helped his wife and a neighbour who later contacted the council to praise the trio.
Manny, who has worked for the council since 1999, said: “It was a shock seeing the gentleman topple over but thankfully he was not badly hurt. It’s nice that they have written into thank us.”
Drainage men Mark Wilson and Billy Bell helped Teresa Thomasson with an aggressive doorstep salesman while working near her home on Ontario Close.
They stopped the harassment, reported the incident to the police and checked up on the shaken Ms Thomasson later.
She said: “I cannot praise them enough and they even called back that afternoon to make sure I was okay.”
Coun Smith executive member for environment said: “It always great to hear from the community about the services we provide.
These are great examples of our environment teams going the extra mile to help people and the recognition is well deserved. ”
