DRINK and jealousy have been blamed for a woman striking her husband over the head with a bottle in a Blackburn bar.
And a court was told an innocent bystander went on to be punched in the face by Victoria Davies.
Preston Crown Court also heard that her husband Benjamin was on a community order at the time over a domestic violence-related incident against her.
Davies, of Valley Lane, Blackburn, was given 12 weeks’ jail, suspended for 18 months, with 18 months supervision.
She had pleaded guilty to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, committed in May last year.
Lisi Ke, prosecuting, said the couple had been married for three years at the time. There had been problems. Mr Davies had thought of moving out but they decided to give it another go.
On the night of May 5 last year, both were out separately. Mr Davies and his brother were at the Florence Hotel Bar in Blackburn, while the defendant initially went to a 30th birthday party.
She began calling and texting her husband, to see where he was and who with. She became suspicious.
The defendant, 31, went to the bar and saw him in the company of two women. He said they were partners of friends. The prosecution said an argument arose between them. She went on to hit him on the head with a bottle. A member of staff tried to separate them.
Bryony Burns, a friend of the staff member, tried to help and was punched by the defendant.
The court also heard that Benjamin Davies did not want to continue with his initial complaint. In a subsequent statement he said emotions had been running high on both sides.
A three page handwritten letter from Mr Davies was handed to the judge, in which he had apparently said he himself was just as bad, if not worse.
