A SPECIALIST infant feeding team has been recognised nationally for its commitment and support offered to mothers and their babies.
The Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust team works across East Lancashire to give specialist advice and increase awareness of, and remove barriers to, breastfeeding.
The group was awarded Baby Friendly Stage 1, gaining international recognition from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Baby Friendly Initiative. Maria Brooking, infant feeding specialist at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We joined forces with the Baby Friendly Initiative to increase breastfeeding rates and to improve care for all mothers in East Lancashire. Breastfeeding protects babies against a wide range of illnesses and reduces the mother’s risk of some cancers. Plus it’s cheaper and simply less hassle than bottle feeding. This is the best start for every baby.”
