New project launched to support East Lancashire gay and lesbian carers
11:43am Wednesday 21st August 2013 in News
A NEW project has been launched to make life easier for gay and lesbian carers.
The scheme for East Lancashire, set up by Carers Link, also aims to increase awareness of the needs and concerns of bisexual and trans carers.
The charity said some feel unable to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity to health professionals or families for fear of discrimination and partners are often assumed to be their siblings.
Development worker Paul Fairweather said: “There are still some people with homophobic attitudes who discriminate against gays.”
