Second concert to be held for sick Hoddlesden boy Sam Shaw
6:00pm Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
A SECOND major concert is to be held in an East Lancashire town for a poorly four-year-old from Hoddlesden.
Staff at Pendle Leisure Trust have taken the cause of Sam Shaw to their hearts and are behind a variety night at Colne Muni on Friday, August 30, from 7.30pm.
The youngster has neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer, and his best chance of beating the disease is groundbreaking treatment in America.
Until his diagnosis, Sam’s mother Christine worked for the Colne-based trust.
Publicity manager Sue Madigan said: “Staff have so far raised more than £6,000 towards the appeal target, which now stands at £237,000.
“But they want to help with the final push by supporting this variety concert.”
One of the organisers, Josh Hindle, a regular performer in Pendle and beyond, will be taking to the stage.
Richard Sanderson will act as host and compere, with female trio The Ardenettes, Russell Shaun, Tom Richardson and Gary Barlow tribute Alex Taylor on the bill.
Male vocalist Samuel Small, rockers Wireless, acoustic duo Jackie Catlow and Crash round off the line-up.
Gymnasts from the leisure trust and performers from Encore Dance will also take a turn in the spotlight, with a raffle and other fundraisers planned.
The same venue also hosted Sam Shaw’s Big Day Out, earlier this summer, organised by local councillor Neil Butterworth.
For tickets to the latest gathering, priced £8 and £5 for concessions, people can contact the box office on 01282 661234 or go to the website www.themuni.co.uk
