Library users will soon benefit from extended opening hours at Buckhurst Hill Library, it was announced yesterday.

From early August the Queen's Road library will open for two additional days each week on Monday and Wednesdays from 9.30am until 5pm.

Customers will be able to use the library to read, browse, borrow and return books using self-service machines and to use the public computers.

Buckhurst Hill Parish Council is relocating to the library in August.

The library will be open and fully staffed by Essex County Council Library staff on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am until 5pm.

The extended hours are thanks to a partnership between Buckhurst Hill Parish Council and Essex County Council that will see both organisations share accommodation.

The library’s appearance has been updated to accommodate the parish council.

Councillor John Jowers, cabinet member for libraries, said: “I am very pleased to add Buckhurst Hill Parish Council to the growing list of partnerships with Essex Libraries.”

Councillor Aniket Patel, chairman of Buckhurst Hill Parish Council, said he hoped and expected the extra opening hours will bring further benefits to local people in the future.
