EVESHAM archers shone in the Junior National Outdoor Championships at Lilleshall.

Their results promised a bright future for the Vale club who have a history of producing top competitors.

Around 70 targets were spread across the field for 144-arrow rounds in a metric format, as a FITA Star event, and imperial.

Sally Gilder, competing up an age group, continued her fine form at big tournaments in the recurve bow category with third spot, shooting a metric two score of 1,152 points in Shropshire.

The next day, she again went up an age group in the Hereford (Bristol one) round and was second with a fine 988.

Gilder represents England at the Junior Euronations Home International Tournament in Scotland next month.

Harriet Fletcher shot a compound bow, placing second in the Bristol five round with 1,218 which was just 10 points behind the winner.

Emily Fletcher fired a recurve bow, finishing 15th in the Bristol four round with 973 as both impressed in their first national championships.

Alfie Wilkes competed in the compound bow, achieving two second places with a metric three 1,328 and a Bristol three 1,218.

Meriden’s Jacob Vick, who often trains at Evesham, was third in the recurve bow metric one contest with 1,241.

He went all the way the next day to become national champion with 1,061, shooting the York round which is the longest distance with 72 of the arrows at 100 yards.
