'Remarkable' Duke of Lancaster's Regiment soldiers are back from the front line

Blackburn Citizen: Kingsman Daniel Admou receices his homecoming gift Kingsman Daniel Admou receices his homecoming gift

SOLDIERS from The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment are due to receive campaign medals tomorrow after their home-coming from Afghanistan.

The last 91 solders of the 1st Battalion, including Kingsman Daniel Admou from Darwen, were welcomed home by families after completing a six-month mission in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province.

They led the Transition Support Unit in Lashkar Gah, at first running security operations, then developing Afghan National Security Forces and ultimately handing security over to Afghan colleagues.

Commanding officer Lt Colonel Nick Wood said: “I’m extremely proud of the role my soldiers performed in Lashkar Gah.

“Their professionalism and commitment to the task was remarkable in what continues to be a challenging and dangerous environment.

“During their six months working with the Afghan police they brought continued security and development to the Afghan people in our area.”

Around 430 soldiers served on this deployment, was known as Herrick 17, under the command of 4 Mechanised Brigade.

The soldiers will receive their Afghanistan medals at the ceremony tomorrow at the unit’s Catterick base in North Yorkshire.

The celebration will also involve their families, who have been invited to a fun day at the base.

So what are you saying then ? Are you suggesting that the army will attack me for saying what lots of others are thinking. ?"
Or are you suggesting that the regiment in question don't like people bringing up the murder of a innocent man. ?
I look forward to hearing your reply.

I'm saying that a lot of soldiers who never served in Iraq or have never done anything wrong have just been tainted by your unwarranted accusation and that it's easy to do so when not face to face with someone just back from helmland. Your over the top comment about the army 'attacking' you shows more about your state of mind than any theoretical reprisal.

Look forward to seeing your reply

You are right. There is no accusation and I stand corrected. Tell me however why you think that a comment about a sad day in the history of the army needs to be highlighted when this story has nothing to do with it.

I look forward to your reply.

I think the murder of a innocent man needs to be highlighted every time this regiment is celebrated, otherwise this poor mans fate may be forgotten.
All I am doing kis making the public aware of the other side to this regiment.

Also in answer to your last question no I will not be going into the barracks. However I think a more fitting tribute would be to have a plaque in the memory to Baha placed outside the regiments barracks. I will write to the council to see if they will fund it.

And who nominated you as the reminder of the regiments soiled past? Who decided that a story about celebrating the return of some innocent soldiers should be used to highlight the actions of others?

I am not questioning your morals here, simply the timing of your comment and maybe we should have another plaque next to it reminding us of the reason we are running around helmland in the first place

Why on earth should I remind you?

It simply distracts from the fact that you used this comment thread to bring up an terrible incident which many of these soldiers would have had nothing to do with - even to the point that many where possibly at school at the time. I consider it to be unwarranted in line with the context of the above story and I also believe you've played it nice and safe by raising it here, and as you freely admit, you have no intention of raising the issue face to face with the actual regiment itself.
