Three charged after East Lancs derby match trouble

POLICE have charged three people with offences following disorder around Sunday’s East Lancashire derby.
A further four people arrested have been bailed, while three people were issued penalty notices and two given adult cautions.
Trouble flared at the end of the Ewood Park match, which finished 1-1, when supporters clashed in both corners near the away end.
John Thompson, 21, of Catherine Street East, Horwich, was charged with being drunk in a sports ground, Jason Talbot, 30, of Dalton Street, Burnley, was charged with beingdrunk and disorderly in a public place and Daniel Wright, 20, of Hestham Crescent, Morecambe, has been charged with throwing a missile at an area adjacent to a pitch.
A 49-year-old man from Accrington and a 28-year-old man from Darwen were given penalty notices for public order offences, and a 17-year-old from Burnley was given a penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly.
An 18-year-old man from Accrington was given an adult caution for causing criminal damage and a 43-year-old man of no fixed address was cautioned for being drunk and disorderly.
Three people arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, a 17-year-old boy from Accrington, a 25-year-old man from Bacup and a 22-year-old man from Clitheroe, have been bailed by police, and a 35-year-old man from Burnley arrested on suspicion of affray has also been bailed.
Supporters groups for both sides also condemned vandalism to the toilets in the Darwen End of Ewood by Claret fans.
Lee Hoos, Burnley FC CEO, called for an end to the trouble that surrounds the matches.
He said: “Burnley Football Club condemns behaviour of this type. There is no room for it in football. In the fixture earlier this season there was also substantial damage in the visitors’ stand at Turf Moor.
“This does not make it right to do the same thing at Ewood Park.
“We believe that most fans of both clubs are decent people but a minority seem intent in engaging in wanton vandalism.
“We will do our best to identify and deal with this minority and encourage right-minded supporters to help us root out the people responsible for these incidents, to enable the relevant authorities to deal with the matter.
“It’s time the real supporters took back football."
