Comedy club promoter from Blackburn wins national award

A COMEDY club promoter has scooped a prestigious regional award.

Nineteen-year-old Junaid Musa won the Young Innovation and Enterprise category at the Community Foundation for Lancashire awards.

He was rewarded for his work on the World of Comedy at Blackburn’s Thwaites Empire Theatre. Mr Musa said: “After gaining some experience of doing comedy myself, I realised that I was unable to perform close to home because there simply weren’t any decent events going on.

“I applied for a grant from the foundation and this completely turned things around.

“I started putting on my own events at venues in Blackburn which gave other young entertainers the chance to showcase their talents and gain experience.

“I currently run the World of Comedy show at Thwaites Empire Theatre which I am hoping will become the biggest comedy event in town, or even across the region.

“When I was nominated for the Young Innovation and Enterprise award I thought it was a mistake, so to actually win was unbelievable.”

The Spirit of Lancashire Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of the community and voluntary sector in Lancashire and the local businesses and philanthropists that have supported them through the Community Foundation for Lancashire.

Lad needs to get down to Ewood if he wants real life comedy. Maybe a production "Venkys-Indian chicken farmers in Beckham and Messi bid" would be a sell out.
