THE plinth and surround of the old printing machine next to Bolton Road, close to India Mill, Darwen, has been renovated by Capita.

The monument, adapted from a calico printer, was used in Crown Wallcoverings and Paragon Wallcovering factories.

Darwen councillor Brian Taylor, who works at nearby Capita TV Licensing, said the stone flags had been disappearing and the footings sinking.

Coun Taylor said: “The plinth and surround have been renovated and I just need to contact the Payback Team to repaint it.”

Fellow Darwen councillor Dave Smith said: “Capita have done a first-class job on the machine.”

It will make a good seat. Whenever I drive past this place I can't help but wonder why they don't use that horrid chimney for all the smokers stood there.
