Blackburn charity urges people to look after the elderly during cold weather

AGE UK has urged people in Blackburn with Darwen to take extra precautions to stay warm after the Met Office put out a cold weather alert for this week.

The charity said protection against the cold was vital for older people who are particularly vulnerable to the impact of low temperatures.

Its tips to protect people’s health and keep warm in winter include keeping bedrooms at 18 degrees Celsius and protecting fingers, mouth and head, parts of the body more sensitive to changes in temperature.

Met Office predictions showed temperatures today (MON) unlikely to get above freezing and although Tuesday and Wednesday will be warmer, temperatures are only expected to reach three or four degrees Celsius.

Is this serious? Pensioners get loads of money. They get at least £135 pw. It's not like they have to buy petrol to get to work. Or pay the mortgage/rent. Or pay for health costs.

Blackburn charity urges people to look after the elderly during cold weather... I believe the Blackburn Asian community already do this by taking care of their parents when they are elderly and unable to take care of themselves. A method of care that should be used by all really.
