Wetherspoons applies to open bar in Darwen

DISCOUNT pub chain JD Wetherspoon has lodged a licence application to open a bar in Darwen.

The firm wants to turn the former Methodist church in Railway Road into one of its pubs and has recently been granted planning permission to make changes to the inside of the building.

Consultation on the licence application closes on March 28 and a hearing will take place soon after.

Until the consultation has ended, no date for work to begin has been arranged and there is no opening date for the pub.

AND how the hell do you work that one out ??? I admit that the bar staff that lose their jobs will have somewhere to apply to but how about the cleaners, landlords and landladies? Brilliant news for policing of public houses as in a couple more years Darwen will only have a few outskirt pubs with decent folk in and the drunkards who want cheap fuel can visit the spoons, bridge and 39 with all the rest of the idiots! Part time minimum wage spoon jobs are hardly what this town needs! As for being good news for real ale drinkers they will have 10 handpulls on with 4 dedicated to Green King tosh, 3 unused and 3 serving rubbish from breweries that have made the error of supplying them at less than cost price! So enjoy drinking there and supporting the death of the REAL pubtrade and helping put some small micro breweries to the wall!
