'Charmless' thief banned from Blackburn

A ‘CHARMLESS individual’ has been banned from two Lancashire towns for being a habitual and abusive shoplifter.
Nigel Wilde, described by police as a ‘deeply unpleasant man’, was handed a full anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) banning him from Blackburn and central Blackpool.
Blackpool Magistrates’ Court heard the 32-year-old thief liked to travel between the towns to steal. He was also abusive and generally caused a nuisance.
And when he got caught he would often become aggressive.
Wilde, formerly of Cherry Lodge, in the Islington area of Blackburn, gave his address to the court as HMP Preston.
He was made the order of a three-year ASBO after the court heard he caused misery in the towns for years, not only with his shoplifting, but by being abusive, racist and intimidating others with his violent behaviour.
Before making the order District Judge James Hatton studied a dossier of incidents compiled by Blackpool PCSO Ryan White and PC Dave Hall from Blackburn.
The prosecution said: “Over a number of years Wilde has engaged in anti-social behaviour. He is an habitual shoplifter who generally on being caught behaves in an aggressive manner.”
He added that since an interim ASBO was made against Wilde on December 21 last year, Wilde had breached the order five times, on four occasions behaving agressively and also behaving racially. Wilde had been jailed for each breach and was currently serving a 60-day sentence.
The defence asked for Wilde to be allowed in certain areas of the town so he could go to centres for drug rehabilitation and homelessness.
When the judge told Wilde there would be a slight delay in preparing maps showing the areas he was banned from, Wilde said: “How long? I have to be back in the prison.”
When the ASBO conditions were read out to him Wilde complained he was not allowed in an area where there was a centre for homeless people and he said: “I will breach the order.”
Speaking after the case PC Dave Hall said: “Nigel Wilde is a deeply unpleasant individual.
“This order should go a long way to protect the people of Blackpool and Blackburn from this charmless individual.”
