Debate looked at issues raised by the census in Blackburn
2:17pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in News
POLITICIANS and community members debated how to support old, young, and vulnerable people of different cultures and creeds.
Concerns voiced about the state of Blackburn with Darwen’s education system, aging population, and cultural make-up, triggered a public debate to tackle the issues.
Chairing the event, Jack Straw MP and Harry Catherall, chief executive of the borough council, faced tough questions from the floor, at Census 2011 – What is the Future of Blackburn with Darwen?
On being probed as to how the pair believe free schools and academies affect cultural cohesion, Mr Catherall said: “The policy is incoherent. It seems like anyone can set up their own school now, which splits resources.”

As an apolitical member of this community, fully paid up community charge payer and someone with a more than vested interest in what is being proposed, discussed and decided, by unelected persons, purporting to represent my opinion - without ever asking my opinion, I feel somewhat disenfranchised by these almost cabalistic focus/steering groups.
Why are these meetings not more widely advertised, before the event?

tajmahalovertheoldmaReally! Grammar is your only concern?

It's 'ageing', not 'aging'. This is not the USA. Or does Gannett Inc. insist you use an American English spellchecker, LET?
