A DARWEN restaurant has promised to donate all its takings from tonight’s Man v Food challenge to the funeral of Mark Turnbull.
Mr Turnbull, 49, died on Saturday at his home. But his wife Nikkie and their four children are trying to raise the £900 deposit towards the £1,800 funeral by Friday.
Resh Gohel, manager of Sukhi’s, in Blackburn Road, Darwen, dedicated the cash to the cause after hearing of the family’s financial struggles.
He said: “We will try and raise as much as we can for Mark, who used to dine here. I know it’s last minute, but everything will help the family.
“We already have some people taking part and if they don’t complete the challenge of eating 12 chicken legs with hot chilli salad in 20 minutes, with a 5 minute afterburn, they will have to pay £14.95.
“We are looking for more people to take part and inviting people to come along and donate to the cause.
“We will also be taking donations in the restaurant this week.”
The challenge will take place tonight, Wednesday, February 20, from 6.30pm at the restaurant.
