Woman found injured in Blackburn was not attack victim

A TEENAGER found with head injuries in Blackburn had not been attacked, police said.

Police and paramedics were called to Bolton Road, in the Ewood area of the town, shortly at around 6am yesterday after an 18-year-old girl was found collapsed in the street.

Detectives launched an investigation following concerns the teenager may have been attacked as she tried to walk home.

Crime scene investig-ators spent time at the scene searching for clues, police said.

However, after receiv-ing medical attention at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, officers said the girl was able to exp-lain that she had fallen down a flight of stairs at a friend’s flat while drunk.

DI Mark Vaughton, of Blackburn CID, who led the investigation into the incident, said: “Follow-ing reports from the ambulance service that an 18-year-old girl had been found in Bolton Road with head injuries, we launched an invest-igation to discover the circumstances around how she happened to be there.

“After treatment at the Royal Blackburn Hospit-al the female was able to explain that she had fallen down the stairs while trying to leave a friend’s flat following an argument.

“Once she left the flat she then fell over again. I am now satisfied that no other person was invol-ved and that is the end of the police investigation.”

The teenager, who lives in Burnley, has now been released from hospital.
