Schools cash in on Darwen mascot name game

FOUR Darwen schools will be presented with £125 after children came up with the name ‘Darren’ for the town council’s new mascot.

Darwen Town Council unveiled the Darwen Tower-shaped mascot last year.

Councillors challenged schoolchildren in the town to come up with a name for the mascot, with prize money up for grabs for their schools.

Five children from four different schools suggested ‘Darren’ as an ideal name for the mascot. The winners were Tom Gauntlett, 10, of St Barnabas Primary School; Katie-Grace Clarke, four, of Primrose Nursery; Flynn and Isla Hayes, nine and six, of St Joseph’s; and Olivia Dawson, six, of Avondale.
