AN artist is hoping to raise £30,000 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation by selling paintings in memory of her mum.

Kulsoom Satia, from Blackburn, has created abstract, landscape and Arabic pieces, using the oil on canvas technique, which are available online.

The 30-year-old was inspired to create artwork after her mum Rabiya Mohammed was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 54.

She died in last August, despite undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments.

Kulsoom said she wanted to give something back to the charity which helped her and her mum through the most difficult times.

She said: “We didn’t feel like we were in a hospital at all; as soon as you arrive at the Rosemere Cancer Centre you are offered tea and biscuits and made to feel very relaxed.

“I know that mum felt at home there and didn’t find the daily treatments stressful at all.

“Also, mum had suffered a stroke some years beforehand and so wasn’t keen on leaving the house.

“At Rosemere, she felt accepted and I think she enjoyed getting to know the nurses and staff there. We often stayed for an hour or so after her treatment just chatting to nurses and enjoying the social side of being at the centre.”

While Rabiya was alive, Kulsoom and the rest of her family organised a fun day in aid of Rosemere, which raises funds for additional equipment and facilities for cancer patients being treated at cancer centres and also invests in cancer research. They raised more than £2,000.

Dan Hill, area fundraising co-ordinator for East Lancashire at the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “Kulsoom is a very talented artist, whose Valentine’s collection perfectly communicates what our campaign is about – thinking about loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer or those who are currently undergoing treatment.

“We are honoured that she is helping us raise money with her beautiful paintings.”

All of the paintings can be viewed and bought at www.baitulfhunoon.co.uk or www.myhouseofart.com, with 25 per cent of all sales going to the charity as part of its Valentine’s Appeal.
