Inferior food alert given to Lancashire takeaways

TAKEAWAYS serving food that is being described inaccurately can expect a visit from trading standards, warns Lancashire County Council.

Analysis carried out revealed processed cheese substitute was being used in place of mozzarella on pizzas, lamb in place of beef in curry, mixed species of meat in ‘lamb doner’ kebabs and substituted pork in ham and pepperoni topped pizzas.

County Coun Albert Atkinson, cabinet member responsible for trading standards, said: “I was concerned to hear that, in some instances, customers have been paying for what they believe to be premium ingredients, but are receiving cheap substitutes.

“We’re all aware that times are tough, but customers should still know exactly what they’re eating. Money’s tight, so it’s only right that customers get what they pay for.

“Trading Standards officers will be contacting offending businesses to notify them of the outcome of the sampling results. They will also receive clear advice on how to get it right.”

It really is time to to sort this. There are those who want only halal meat and those that do not. it should be clearly labelled. There are those who want food labelled with none vegetarian ingrediants. Dairy ice cream, or processed ice cream E numbers etc the list could go on but in this day and age it is not rocket science print labels.

If they are breaking the law why aren't they prosecuted then ?or named.So actually the trading standards are aiding and abetting an illegal act good stuff.

Just don't risk it. Not when you can make fresh home cooked food made from ingrediants that you can trust and check before you eat. Most of these businesses will be wiped out when the food shortages start to come into effect.

You can't escape from the fact that world food reserves are at there lowest since 1972 and that populations are booming. Its all coming to a crashing horrible end.

Get yourself to Asda or Sainsbury's, the shelves are teaming with food there.

How very true..It won't be that long now before the shutters go up at the non Italian pizza houses, and the multi coloured kebab shops. People will no longer be able to afford the junk.

I can not agree more my friend. I shudder everytime I pass one on these places. The sad fact is that councils keep on letting them open, and also getting away with selling adulterated food.

I bought my friend some dinner the other day from one of the fried chicken shops, later i asked him what it was like...S**t was his reply, how many kebab and fried chicken-takeaway shops on blackburn road accrington 14 at the last count, thats not counting the shops in the town centre, how much takeaway food dose accrington need?
