A GENEROUS nine-year-old girl had her prized long locks chopped off to make a wig for a child with cancer.

Jodie Keryk, of Heys Lane, Blackburn, had her hair cut into a bob, and is sending the 10 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust charity, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

The Meadowhead Junior School pupil had her hair cut by Gail Sutton, at Ab Fab hairdressers, in Mill Hill.

She said: “I was a bit nervous, and it was a bit scary when I heard the hairdresser cutting away, but I really like my new hair cut.

“I’m really pleased that I have done it, and now a sick child will have new hair for Christmas.”

Jodie has helped to raise around £500, which will pay for the wig to be made, plus extra cash for the charity.

Mum Michelle said: “I am so proud of her.

“We just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported Jodie.

“Without them, she wouldn’t have been able to raise all that money for the charity.”

Hairdresser Gail said: “She was really excited when she came in after school. She didn’t seem nervous and there were no second thoughts.

“The new hair cut really suits her and she was really pleased with it because it made her look older.

“It was a pleasure to do it.

“It’s an amazing thing that she’s done.”
