Forest Whitaker looks poised to sign up to a role in Star Wars: Rogue One.

The Last King Of Scotland star is said to be in negotiations to join the upcoming film’s cast, according to Variety, which will make up part of the revamped sci-fi anthology.

It has already secured Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn for the film, with Gareth Edwards directing.

Star Wars: Rogue One is set in the period between Episode III and Episode IV of the story chronologically and is set to be released in December 2016.

Disney and Lucasfilm have made no comment on the potential casting and what Forest’s role would involve in the tale about a heist of the Death Star by rebel soldiers.

Forest can next be seen in boxing drama Southpaw this summer, tipped as an Oscar contender, and is currently filming Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi drama The Story Of Your Life with Amy Adams.
