David Walliams has kicked off a Twitter frenzy by joking that he is the newest X Factor judge – and that he has sacked Simon Cowell.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge is fond of joking with his colleague Simon, and carried on the banter after the latest series ended by pretending that he would be joining another of the music mogul’s shows.
I can finally confirm I am the new @TheXFactor judge. @SimonCowell will not be returning. Sadly I had to sack him for showing off on @BGT

But plenty of David’s fans seemed to like the idea of him popping up on The X Factor.

Earlier this week when being quizzed about the new X Factor judging line-up, Simon had ruled David out of the running.
He said that David would be a “terrible fourth judge. I can confirm that would never never happen”.
Simon has said that he will be making a decision about who this year’s X Factor judges will be this week.
