Bradley Cooper has had a warm welcome from British fans after his first night on stage in the West End.

The American Hustle star is currently playing the lead role in The Elephant Man at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket and was mobbed by fans as he left the venue after the first preview show.

According to Mail Online, he seemed relaxed about how the evening had gone, happily stopping to sign autographs for waiting fans and take selfies with them.

Earlier in the day, Bradley, 40, had been pictured arriving for rehearsals with a Whole Foods bag of supplies and signing more autographs for the crowd gathered at the theatre.

Initial reaction to his starring role has been good, with an official account for the play tweeting that all had gone well and he had earned a standing ovation.

Audience members also tweeted how impressed they were with Bradley’s performance.

He has taken on a role previously played by the likes of David Bowie and Mark Hamill which sees him as Joseph Merrick in the real-life story of a man so deformed that he was exhibited as a curiosity in Victorian times.
