Russell Brand has reportedly taken a pop at Comic Relief, just days after taking part in the TV charity event which has raised over £1 billion for people in need around the world.
According to The Sun, the comedian-turned-activist told an audience at a comedy gig in east London he felt “compromised” taking part in Red Nose Day, as it placed the burden to solve global issues on ordinary people.
Russell apparently told the crowd at The Proud Archivist: “Is it right to do Comic Relief? Plus is any f***er watching it?
“Those were the questions I was asking myself as I walked out confidently onto the Palladium stage. And the answer is, ‘No, not really.’
“Is charity part of the problem? Ultimately taking responsibility away from the centralised powers of created government, corporation, and alleviating that stress and tension by placing the burden once more on ordinary people.”
But the 39-year-old did concede that Comic Relief has “good intentions”.
