We all know that the main event of the Oscars isn’t really the giving of awards – it’s all about the glitz and glamour on the red carpet.

Here we’ve delved into the archives to bring you some of our favourite looks from the 87th Academy Awards and compared the outfits to the starlet’s previous red carpet looks from the same event.

Reese Witherspoon

2011 (Benkey/AFF), 2013 (Todd Williamson/Invision)

Reese is an Academy Award veteran and never fails to make a splash on the red carpet with her enviable collection of amazing gowns.

This year she was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role in the film Wild. Reese plays Cheryl, a woman who loses her wife and is about to separate from her husband, who decides to leave her life behind and embark on a hike across the Pacific Crest Trail.

Reese is a vocal advocate of the #AskHerMore campaign, which encouraged journalists to ask actresses questions outside the realm of fashion.

Jennifer Aniston

Despite being overlooked for an Oscar nomination this year, Jennifer Aniston looked radiant as usual in a nude Versace gown with beautiful beading and sequin embellishment.

Jen was certainly a winner in the style stakes, and we’re loving the fact that she strayed from her usual award ceremony choice of black dress.

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore is one very talented lady – she’s a world-class actress, children’s author and a great mother to her two kids, Caleb and Liv. Oh, and she’s also got impeccable taste in show-stopping award ceremony outfits.

Julianne scooped the Best Actress accolade for her role in Still Alice. She won high praise from critics for playing a woman with early onset Alzheimer’s.

Cate Blanchett never fails to make a splash on the Oscars red carpet.

In 2014, she dazzled in a lavish gold Armani gown which was worth a jaw-dropping $18.1 million (£11.8 million), but this year the actress toned it down in a high-necked black number with a gorgeous statement necklace from Tiffany & Co.
