Lulu has got something to shout about after signing a new record deal taking her back to the label on which she made her debut half a century ago.
The 66-year-old singer has signed to Decca Records for a new album, Making Life Rhyme, which marks her first collection composed entirely of songs she has written herself.
Lulu was 15 when she first worked with the company, releasing her debut album in 1965, featuring her breakthrough song, a cover of the Isley Brothers track Shout – which has become her signature tune.
Her new album, recorded in London, will be her first set of fresh recordings for a decade. She experienced a new lease of chart fame in the early 1990s when she was a guest vocalist on Take That’s number one single Relight My Fire.
She said: “I’m really proud of this record. I’ve made a lot of records over the years but this one comes at a time in my life when I’m re-evaluating everything.
“Life changes, people change, and this album sums up what I see as my place in the world at this time. For that reason it’s especially gratifying to me that the album will appear on Decca, my first ever label.”
Dickon Stainer, president of Decca Records Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome such an iconic singer back to Decca, where she started her career.”
She will also tour the UK from May 10.
