Lewis Hamilton took the unusual step of bringing his dog with him to Sports Personality Of The Year – and it’s fair to say Roscoe was the star of the red carpet.

The Formula One world champion was one of 10 nominated sportspeople at the event in Glasgow, but he managed to upstage himself by dragging his pooch along with him.

The English bulldog has been a regular companion to Hamilton over the past few years, so he brought him along to the BBC sporting celebration because, y’know, why not?

He wasn’t the only dog to make an appearance, either.

And comedian Eddie Izzard, attending to champion volunteers in sport, had an encounter with kids’ favourite Hacker.

Meanwhile, Nicola Adams and Ross Murdoch, who presented the Young Sports Personality Of The Year Award to gymnast Claudia Fragapane, appeared on stage with a pair of Scottish terriers, Aggy and Tilly, as part of an ill-advised sketch involving the CBBC puppet.

The world of sport has gone dog crazy.
