Marco Pierre White has claimed he never tried the dietary staple of baked beans until he was in his late 40s.
The Michelin-starred chef, who has launched a series of restaurants as well as starring in ITV's Hell's Kitchen series, said he missed out on the foodstuff until only the past few years.
The 52-year-old made his confession to David Walliams as they filmed an online trail while judging a nationwide hunt for a new flavour of Walkers Crisps.
Discussing various taste combinations, Marco revealed : "I was in my late 40s when I had my first baked beans in life."
David asks him: "Why, what were you doing up to that point?", but his response has been edited out of the footage.
In the past Marco has told how tinned food was considered a "middle class luxury" in his household when he was growing up.
The six finalists in the Do Us A Flavour promotion will go on sale on July 21, with an overall winner announced in October.
