Katy Perry has had an unlikely meeting with former England cricketer Geoff Boycott after he had previously been bowled over by her voice.

The 73-year-old sporting pundit and the US singer - whose hits include I Kissed A Girl - have both spoken of their admiration for each other.

And after Boycott attended the star's show in Manchester, he was introduced to her backstage.

A photograph of the pair together, with 29-year-old Katy wearing what appeared to be a polka dot bathrobe, was posted online.

Boycott's interest in the singer first emerged nearly three years ago when he mentioned it during a Test Match Special programme for the BBC, declaring: " I like that Katy Perry - she's a good singer. Firework - that was a good record, that. She's nice, her."

Asked by commentator Henry Blofeld whether it was her looks which had caught his eye, he said: "I like her singing as well. She's good.

"She's tops for me. She just has something about her voice, her voice is good, it's clear, it's strong."

But Boycott added: "I don't think I'll ever meet her, Henry - she's American."

Last year, Katy recorded a message via Radio 1 DJ Greg James, in which she told him: "Hey Geoffrey, it's Katy Perry. I just think you're beautiful and your style is stunning.

"When I'm next in the UK you'll have to show me around the Yorkshire countryside."
