Rebel Wilson has revealed how Matt Lucas inspired her British accent in Night Of The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb.

The Pitch Perfect actress, who shares a home with the funnyman in Hollywood, stars as British security guard Tilly in the third instalment of the fantasy series.

“I live with a famous British comedian, Matt Lucas, and I watch British shows all the time so I just tried to channel a bit of that,” she said.

“I’m not a great imitator or anything so I can’t do the voices exactly but I just tried to have fun with it and try to channel a bit of Matt Lucas for this role.”

Rebel said joining the star-studded Night At The Museum cast, which includes Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and the late Robin Williams, was “surreal”.

“I was quite daunted because most of my stuff in this movie is with Ben Stiller and I’m just such a huge, huge fan of his,” she said. “When you rock up with him on the first day and he’s looking at you, but once I made him laugh once, I was like ‘Phew’ and I relaxed into it.”

The Australian comedienne also said her sudden rise to fame can be hard to believe.

“When I was at college, I had a casual job at the movie cinema. I was supposed to be cleaning the popcorn machine and stuff, but I would be sitting in the movie cinema watching all the movies,” she recalled.

“I’m used to just watching all these guys and thinking they’re amazing, and now all of a sudden, I live in Hollywood and I’m in movies with all my comedy heroes. I just did a movie with Sacha Baron Cohen, I’m in Pitch Perfect 2… and I kiss Ben Stiller in this movie. Sometimes I really have to pinch myself because I can’t believe how far I’ve come and how quickly. It’s a bit surreal.”

Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb is in cinemas now.
